At Southwest Hearing Solutions, we understand that hearing health and hearing aids come with many questions. Below, we’ve answered some of the most common questions about hearing loss, hearing aids, tinnitus, and hearing care. If you don’t see your question here, feel free to contact us or schedule a consultation.
You may have hearing loss if you experience:
✔️ Difficulty understanding speech, especially in noisy environments
✔️ Asking people to repeat themselves frequently
✔️ Turning up the TV or phone volume higher than others prefer
✔️ A ringing or buzzing sound in your ears (tinnitus)
Hearing loss can be caused by:
🔹 Aging (presbycusis) – Natural hearing decline over time
🔹 Noise exposure – Prolonged exposure to loud sounds
🔹 Ear infections or fluid buildup – Temporary or permanent hearing loss
🔹 Genetic factors – Inherited hearing conditions
🔹 Certain medications – Some drugs are known to cause hearing damage
If you struggle to hear conversations, miss important sounds, or frequently ask people to repeat themselves, hearing aids can significantly improve your quality of life. Our audiologist will conduct a comprehensive hearing test to determine if hearing aids are the right solution for you.
Hearing aids come in different styles, including:
✔️ Behind-the-Ear (BTE) – Powerful and versatile
✔️ Receiver-in-Canal (RIC) – Discreet with natural sound quality
✔️ In-the-Ear (ITE) – Custom-molded for comfort
✔️ Completely-in-Canal (CIC) & Invisible-in-Canal (IIC) – Nearly invisible
Hearing aid prices vary based on technology level, features, and brand. At Southwest Hearing Solutions, we offer a range of hearing aids to fit different budgets, along with flexible financing options and insurance assistance.
Yes! We offer a trial period so you can test your hearing aids in real-world settings. If you're not satisfied, we’ll work with you to find a better solution.
Tinnitus is a ringing, buzzing, or whooshing sound in the ears that isn’t caused by an external source. It can be temporary or chronic.
There is currently no cure for tinnitus, but many treatments can help reduce its impact, including:
✔️ Sound therapy – White noise or masking sounds
✔️ Tinnitus retraining therapy (TRT) – Helps the brain adapt to tinnitus
✔️ Hearing aids with tinnitus features – Reduces the perception of ringing
Signs of earwax buildup include:
🔹 Muffled hearing or temporary hearing loss
🔹 A feeling of fullness in the ear
🔹 Ear pain or itching
🔹 Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
No! Cotton swabs push earwax deeper into the ear canal, which can lead to impaction and hearing problems. Professional earwax removal is safe and effective.
Anyone exposed to loud environments should consider custom earplugs, including:
✔️ Musicians & concertgoers
✔️ Hunters & shooters
✔️ Construction & industrial workers
✔️ Swimmers & surfers
Custom earplugs are:
✔️ Molded to your ear shape for a perfect fit
✔️ More effective at reducing harmful noise levels
